Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex closing in…
Due to be released on October 30, 2008, Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex is just over a week away from final release.
One of the most hotly awaited Linux distros around, I took a round on their beta testing site to see the newest features:
- A new Gnome update with plenty of fixes and tab support for Nautilus
- Upgrade to the newest Linux kernel, which was a major upgrade
- X.Org 7.4, which is sweet for those not on fglrx.
- A guest session mode
- An encrypted private directory by default
- A network manager with enhanced capabilities.
- A new Samba
There are other upgrades and updates besides, but these are probably the most radical.
Just how radical are they, in real use? I am waiting for the release version to see…
